Ensuring Dignity in Death and Life
At Uravugal Trust, we believe that every life holds inherent value, and every individual deserves a dignified end, regardless of their circumstances in life. “Uravugal,” meaning “relationship” in Tamil, embodies our core philosophy: to form a compassionate bond with those who are often overlooked and forgotten.
Founded in 2017 by Khaalid Ahamed and a dedicated group of friends, Uravugal Trust emerged from a profound recognition of a pressing societal need in Chennai: the thousands of unknown and homeless individuals whose lives ended without a proper farewell. We are a registered non-profit organization committed to providing respectful final rites for the unclaimed deceased and offering vital support to the living destitute.
Vision
Our vision at Uravugal Trust is to create a nation free from homelessness, where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, is treated with dignity and respect, even in death. We envision a future where the concepts of “unclaimed” or “forgotten” are eradicated, and where dignity in death is a universal right, not a privilege.
Mission
At Uravugal Trust, our mission is simple yet profound:
To restore dignity, love, and care to those who are forgotten by society.
Every day, countless people live on the streets—homeless, hungry, sick, and alone. Many are elderly, mentally ill, or abandoned by their families. Some pass away without even a name to remember them by. We believe no life should end in neglect, and no human should live without dignity.
